Tuesday was overflowing with good news for Cowboys Nation after their 23-16 win in the Meadowlands. We’ve got full coverage: CeeDee Lamb’s redemptive story arc that took him from goat to hero in one night, the sudden sack explosion spreading through DeMarcus Lawrence and the Dallas defense, the elite company Cooper Rush just joined, the wonderful disappearance of Terence Steele from the spotlight, and the Giant mistake from the New York defense that may have helped Ezekiel Elliott find the end zone just a little bit easier.
We’ve got full postgame analysis, too, including the player of the game and a look at the night in photos. And Cooper Rush’s wife gets the loudest laugh with her message for Big Blue upon leaving NYC. We’ve got the latest on Dak Prescott, including what getting his stitches out means for his recovery, and why he’s the biggest cheerleader of all for his understudy. We’re putting what Dan Quinn has done in perspective, we’re examining the ongoing penalty problem, and we’re seeing what the latest win has done for the Cowboys’ standing in the power rankings. Oh, and that photographer that CeeDee Lamb bowled over after his scoring grab? Wait until you see the shot she got. That and more, in News and Notes.
Countdown is on for Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (thumb) as recovery continues :: Dallas Morning News
Prescott had the stitches removed from his fractured right thumb Monday. It’s an important step, but it’s just one step. “I could throw a football right now,” he said after the team’s win in New York. But there’s still time required to rebuild his grip and strength; Oct. 16 still seems like his likeliest return date.
Cooper Rush keeps Dallas Cowboys winning and Dak Prescott is his biggest cheerleader :: Fort Worth Star-Telegram
The sports world has fallen in love with Cooper Rush, and the man he’s temporarily replaced couldn’t love it more. “The guy has been waiting on his opportunity to show he can play in this game and no stage is too big for him,” Prescott said of his understudy, who has led the team to consecutive wins and created something of a quarterback controversy, at least in the media. “I want him to win game in and game out, regardless of what the hell happens around here.”
Cooper Rush joins Roger Staubach in elite Cowboys history in win over Giants :: Cowboys Wire
The backup joined an exclusive club Monday night with the win in New York. Roger Staubach, Steve Beurlein, and Jason Garrett are the only other Dallas quarterbacks to have won their first three Cowboys starts. And even then, Garrett was pulled early from the first of his, and Beurlein had already had several for the Raiders; Staubach and Rush are the only two to finish their first three career starts (and get wins) with a star on their helmet.
'I had to step up': Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb makes up for awful drop with one-handed TD :: Cowboys Wire
No one was harder on Lamb after his wide-open second-quarter drop than Lamb himself, even as he prepared to make amends. “The ball’s coming his way some more,” Cooper Rush said of the moment. “He knew it, I knew it, we all knew it.” A clutch 4th-down grab kept a late drive alive; a one-handed reception in the back corner of the end zone may be what finally turned him into the WR1 the Cowboys imagined.

Giants only had 10 players on field for Ezekiel Elliott touchdown run :: SI.com
It’s hard enough to stop Ezekiel Elliott. But doing it with only 10 men on the field will rarely work out well. The Giants learned that the hard way Monday night. Linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, and cornerback Cor’Dale Flott left the field before Elliott’s late-third-quarter score, while only defensive lineman Justin Ellis and linebacker Oshane Ximines came in for the goal-line personnel group.
Cowboys' DeMarcus Lawrence dodges injury while tying career-best sack total: 'They just come in bunches' :: Cowboys Wire
The veteran notched three sacks in a single game for just the third time as a pro, moving him just behind Micah Parsons for the team lead this season. After surviving an injury scare to the same foot he broke last season, Lawrence hopes to pass Parsons next week versus Washington. “It’s a competitive thing,” the young linebacker said. “Nothing on the line except who wants to be greater.”

Cowboys' Quinn should prepare for a presidential run, not a head coach opening :: Cowboys Wire
A league-leading 13 sacks. Three straight games to start the season allowing under 20 points. Carrying an offense that has yet to kick into high gear. This defense bears zero resemblance to the 2020 squad that was the worst in franchise history. Dan Quinn has engineered a turnaround that’s nothing short of incredible.

Another beautiful performance for Terence Steele vs NYG. Per PFF's 1st review, Steele allowed zero pressure and posted his 2nd-straight game with a 77.0-plus grade in pass protection. #Cowboys

Cooper Rush’s wife, Lauryn, piles on Giants for cutting quarterback: ‘Lolz’ :: New York Post
The Cowboys backup may have gotten the last laugh by beating his former team, but it was Cooper Rush’s wife who laughed loudest. Lauryn Rush took to social media to celebrate her husband’s win over the squad that signed him and then cut him in 2020. “No better play in football than victory formation,” she posted on her Instagram story. “Two years ago almost to the freaking day the Giants cut Cooper because they wanted to just ‘rotate in other QBs and see’. Lolz.”
Cowboys open as Week 4 favorites over fading Washington :: Cowboys Wire
The Cowboys and Commanders are on very different trajectories at the moment, each riding a two-game streak into their Week 4 meeting. Washington hasn’t won since the season opener, with a leaky offensive line and the Carson Wentz experiment looking like an early bust. Dallas, however, is turning the ship around after foundering against the Bucs, despite having a backup at the helm. The Cowboys are currently 3.5-point favorites with an over/under for the game set at 42.5 points.
Power Rankings: Cowboys Moving Up; Eagles No. 1 :: The Mothership
CBS Sports and NFL.com have the Cowboys at No. 13 after their Monday night victory; USA Today puts them at No. 10. All three outlets rank the Eagles as the best team in the league, though, setting up a key clash when the two clubs renew their rivalry on Oct. 16.
